Wat is het onderscheidingsvermogen van een statistische toets (power)? (13)
Het onderscheidend vermogen, of onderscheidingsvermogen van een statistische toets is de kans om een nulhypothese terecht te verwerpen, dus de kans dat de toets niet een fout van de tweede soort (type II-fout) maakt. Aangezien de alternatieve hypothese vaak samengesteld is, zal het onderscheidend vermogen een functie zijn, aangegeven door γ (of ook wel door β), van de mogelijke waarden van de betrokken parameter onder de nulhypothese. Ideaal is een power van minstens .8.
