Packing list for Montenegro, travel insurance for Montenegro and taking your belongings
What to take to Montenegro: brief
To pack and check:
- Documents: a valid passport (for some countries valid until 3 months after departure) or ID-card for some nationalities. Check the current entry and visa requirements before departure. Also make sure your stay is registered. Hotels generally arrange this, but if you are staying in private accommodation, check that your registration has been taken care of.
- Money: Montenegro uses the euro. You can pay by debit or credit card in many places, cash is useful in smaller towns, at markets, and while travelling.
- Clothing: bring lightweight clothing for the warm summer months. Summer clothes and swimwear are important along the coast, while you may also need warmer layers in the mountains, even in summer. In winter, layers, layers and more layers are the way to go. A rain jacket is also useful in spring, autumn and winter.
- Shoes: comfortable shoes with some grip and cushioning for cities and coastal towns, and sturdy hiking boots for mountain treks.
- Personal care and hygiene: sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm and your usual toiletries.
- Packing and protection: a rain cover for your backpack and a dry bag for your phone, documents and other items that must stay dry.
- Insects and animals: insect repellent and a tick remover, especially if you plan to hike, camp or spend a lot of time in nature or near lakes.
- Outdoor gear and useful items: a reusable water bottle, a cap and a daypack suitable for hiking.
- Nature and hiking: download hiking maps and routes in advance. For longer hikes, bring enough water, snacks and a fully charged phone.
- Beach and swimming: swimwear, flip-flops and a quick-drying towel.
- Medication and travel first-aid kit: personal medication, plasters, antiseptic and a small first-aid kit.
- Safety: a secure bag that closes properly and can be carried close to your body.
- Technology and equipment: a travel adapter for type C and F sockets.
To consider:
- Lightweight waterproof trousers and trekking poles for mountain hikes.
- A headlamp and power bank for camping and hikes that start early or finish late.
- Water shoes for rocky beaches and pebble coves.
- A dry bag for kayaking, boat trips and days spent on the water.
- A smart outfit for restaurants and evenings out.
