Packing list for Bosnia and Herzegovina, travel insurance for Bosnia and Herzegovina and taking your belongings
What to take to Bosnia and Herzegovina: brief
To pack and check:
- Documents: a passport that is still valid for at least 3 months after you leave Bosnia and Herzegovina. A copy of your travel document is useful. Your stay in the country must be registered within 48 hours. If you are staying in a hotel or campsite, this is normally arranged for you.
- Money: the country uses the Bosnian convertible mark (BAM/KM). In cities and tourist areas, you can usually withdraw cash, but also carry some cash for smaller shops, markets, local restaurants and especially if you are heading into the mountains.
- Clothing: light clothing for warm summers and enough layers for spring and autumn. It can be considerably cooler in the mountains than in the cities. Long trousers are useful for hiking and for protection against ticks.
- Shoes: sneakers for cities and sturdy hiking shoes with good grip for the mountains.
- Toiletries: sunscreen, lip balm, hand sanitiser and, if needed, a tick remover.
- Outdoor and useful items: sunglasses, a sun hat or cap, a reusable water bottle and a good daypack. For mountain hikes, a rain jacket, headlamp and possibly hiking poles are useful.
- Packing: a rain cover for your backpack and a waterproof pouch for your phone, documents and other items that need to stay dry.
- Medication and travel first aid: a small first aid kit with plasters, blister plasters and painkillers. Bring enough of your personal medication.
- Technology: an adapter for type C/F sockets. A power bank is useful for long hikes and road trips.
- Safety: watch out for pickpockets in cities and crowded places. Going hiking in remote areas? Be aware that landmines and other unexploded remnants of the war are still present in parts of the country. It is therefore important to stay on marked trails.
