Brain Dissection Practical
Right before the exams, we got offered an extracurricular dissection practical using a calf brain. Having good knowledge of the brain’s anatomy is essential to work towards Clinical Neuropsychology and answering research questions in this field. In order to get our anatomy up-to-speed, we got offered this opportunity since the classes didn't really focus on the explanation of the anatomy of the brain. We're really grateful for this experience and appreciate the nice gesture of the professors who did this dissection practical with us in their own time. I learned a lot and managed to pass my exam for Clinical Neuropsychology! On the outside, the brain feels a little bit like a gummy bear candy and on the inside, it's just straight up pudding that falls apart. I took some pictures to show what it was like:

Congratulations on your exam! Seeing anatomy of the brain is quite different from reading about it. In my biology studies we disected a rat and studied the anatomy of a pigs heart. Fascinating. Didn't it feel strange to look at a human brain?
I totally agree with you! Savannah Troost contributed on 17-11-2021 10:13
I totally agree with you! Reading about it is so different from actually seeing it. It wasn't a human brain but the brain of a calf. A calfs brain is the most similar to a human brain and you can just buy it at the butcher for a couple of euro's! But I think it would be a fascinating experience to dissection an actual human brain in the future. The professor told us that he did had some students in his class who hadd pass out, but I don't think I will haha
