Packing list for Denmark, insurance for Denmark and taking your belongings

What to take to Denmark: brief

To pack and check
  • Documents and money: a valid identity card or passport is sufficient for EU travelers, for travelers from outside the EU a visa is likely to be necessary. Denmark uses the Danish Krone (DKK). You can pay contactless almost everywhere; many shops and restaurants no longer accept cash at all.
  • Clothing: focus primarily on windproof and waterproof clothing. The weather can change quickly, even in summer. A layering system works best, and a warm sweater is usually not an unnecessary luxury, even in July, especially on the coast.
  • Shoes: comfortable walking shoes or sturdy sneakers are ideal for city trips and nature reserves. Flip-flops are handy for campsites and beaches.
  • Personal care and hygiene: sunscreen for the summer.
  • Packing and protection: a rain cover for your bag, a compact umbrella, and possibly waterproof panniers if you are planning a cycling holiday.
  • Insects and animals: mosquito repellent is especially nice when you are camping or staying near lakes, forests, or fjords. Bring a tick remover if you plan to spend a lot of time in nature. Medicines and travel first-aid kit: a basic set with plasters, blister plasters, ORS, painkillers, and personal medication.
  • Outdoors and handy items: a reusable water bottle, sunglasses, and a windproof jacket. If you cycle a lot, also bring a phone holder or bike navigation.
  • Technology and equipment: a universal adapter for types C, E, and K plugs.
To consider
  • Rain trousers for cycling trips.
  • Binoculars for seabirds and seals.
  • Swimwear for the many beaches and harbor pools.
  • Power bank for long cycling days.
  • A sleep mask in June and July; it only gets truly dark for a short time at night then.
