Belarus: Updates & Travel
Travel in Belarus?
- The last dictatorship in Europe, called Belarus, is ruled with an iron fist by Lukashenko (who has been there since 1994). The nature is not very spectacular (mainly plains) but it is still pure with wild wolves, bison and bears. Minsk is surprisingly modern in a country where it sometimes seems as if time has stood still. For when you want to see an old communist country for a bargain.
- Spot bison (and wolves and bears) in Belavezha Wood (Berezinsky Nature Reserve) or Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park.
- Experience rural life in Dudutki with the agricultural museum.
- With the castle that protected the city from the Germans, the puppet theater and the Belaya Vezha (white tower), Brest is an interesting city.
- Apart from modern Minsk, the rest of Belarus sometimes seems to have stood still in time. During the Second World War, most of the old town of Minsk disappeared and now there are mainly Stalinist buildings where trendy bars and nightclubs have found their place.
- Visit the fairytale castle in Mir.
