Universidad de Chile (University of Chile)

This public university is the largest and oldest university in Chile and one of the most prestigious in South America. Its roots date back to 1622 with the founding of the University of Santo Tomás de Aquino by Spanish colonists, from which the Universidad de Chile later emerged. The university boasts two Nobel Prize-winning alumni: Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral. Every year, around 30,000 students enroll at the university, and it welcomes approximately 1,400 exchange students from all over the world.

Algemene informatie universiteit:

Deze publieke universiteit is de grootste en oudste universiteit in Chili. Het is één van de meest prestigieuze universiteiten van Zuid-Amerika. De universiteit dateert uit het jaar 1622 toen de universiteit Santo Tomas de Aquino werd opgericht door Spaanse kolonisten. Later is hieruit de Universidad de Chili voortgekomen. De universiteit heeft 2 alumni die een Nobelprijs hebben gewonnen (Pablo Neruda en Gabriela Mistral). Aan de universiteit staan jaarlijks ongeveer 30.000 studenten ingeschreven en ze ontvangt per jaar ongeveer 1.400 uitwisselingsstudenten van over de hele wereld.

Opleidingen, studierichtingen:

De universiteit heeft 16 faculteiten die zich verspreid bevinden over 13 campussen. Als student heb je een grote keuze als je Spaans beheerst. Je kunt bijvoorbeeld kiezen uit programma’s in business, engineering, humanities of social sciences.

Bijzonderheden:

De universiteit heeft maar liefst 48 bibliotheken en huisvest ook het 150 jaar oude National Astronomical Observatory, het National Theatre van Chili, het National Ballet van Chili en het internationale centrum voor Antarctische studies. Er zijn diverse sportfaciliteiten voor studenten. Studenten kunnen zich onder andere aansluiten bij één van de 19 sportteams van de universiteit. De universiteit heeft 13 campussen verspreid over Santiago. De belangrijkste campussen zijn: Campus Andrés Bello; Campus Juan Gómez Millas; Campus Antumapu; Health Campus en de Engineering Campus.
