Stichting Spots

Stichting Spots is een Nederlandse organisatie die zich inzet voor de bedreigde wilde katachtigen zoals de cheeta (jachtluipaard), luipaard en leeuw. Door middel van projecten en voorlichtingen promoten ze een bewustwording van het beschermen van katachtigen. Ze zijn in 2004 gestart met als focus de cheetah en in 2009 zijn de luipaard en leeuw erbij gekomen.

Projecten

  • Zoals eerder genoemd de focus ligt op leeuwen, luipaarden en cheetah's. 
  • Samenwerking met andere organisaties die zich in verscheidende landen inzetten voor de bescherming van de katachtigen. 
  • Dit wordt gedaan in Botswana, Kenia, Namibië, Zimbabwe en Zuid-Afrika. 
  • De projecten hebben verschillende thema's, zoals bescherming van de populatie, mens-roofdier conflicten, anti-canned hunting, anti-knuffelfarms etc. 

Voorlichtingen

  • Naast de projecten om direct de katten te helpen, zijn er ook voorlichtingen die Stichting Spots organiseerd. Deze kunnen bedoeld zijn voor kinderen, volwassenen, kleine groepen, grote groepen etc. 
  • Het wordt gedaan door middel van lesgeven, spelletjes, grote acties etc. met veel aandacht voor best and bad practices binnen de sector van bescherming van wilde dieren in Afrika.

  • Binnen Stichting Spots is er geen mogelijkheid om betaald werk te doen.

Internships

  • Voor zover bekend is er nog geen mogelijkheid om stage te lopen bij Stichting Spots.

Volunteering

  • Help als vrijwilliger mee bij de door hen ondersteunde projecten in de verschillende landen en draag daadwerkelijk bij aan bescherming van deze ernstig bedreigde diersoorten. Het project in Zuid-Afrika kent ook een vrijwilligersproject voor olifanten en neushoorns en het project in Namibië kent ook een vrijwilligersproject voor de achtergestelde San bevolking (bosjesmannen). Help deze bevolkingsgroep door als vrijwilliger aan de slag te gaan in de kliniek of als leerkracht.
  • De stichting werkt samen met diverse lokale organisaties, zoals het Cheetah Conservation Fund, het Tsavo Cheetah Project, The Naankuse Foundation en Cheetah Conservation Botswana.
  • Minimaal twee weken tot meerdere maanden
  • Je ontvangt uitgebreide informatie vooraf. Er is een vrijwilligerscoördinator ter plekke die de vrijwilligers begeleidt. Bij aankomst krijg je een introductie, waarbij je geïnformeerd wordt over het werk dat je gaat doen en over praktische zaken.
