Lecture 2: Anatomy and physiology of the male and women sexual response
Which topics are covered in the lecture?
The genitals, epididymis, penis, genitals at birth, sperm, prostate, seminal vesicles, phases of the male sex response, the role of testosterone, which problems the male reproductive organs can encounter, labia and cultures, fallopian tube, clitoris, estrogen, orgasm, genital mutilation, Turner syndrome and other abnormalities.

Which recent developments in the field are discussed?
First, when a baby was born and doctors didn’t see if it was a girl or a boy, they took a good guess and gave this baby drugs with hormones to let them develop in the sex which was chosen by the doctor. Nowadays, there are DNA-tests to see if the baby has a XX or XY chromosome, there are conversations with parents et cetera. It is not the doctor who decides, but they find out what should be best for the baby.

There were no specific comments made by the lecturer about the exam, but there has been said that the epididymis is very important to remember. This belongs to the male genitals and here sperm is stored and sperm matures here too.

Every five years, there is a research about sex to check changes over time. In the past years it became clear that children are much earlier with thinking about sex.

Lecture 4: Sexual dysfunction in women
Which topics are covered in the lecture?
Sexual arousal, sexual desire, the high and low road, stress and sex, orgasm, masturbation, chronic vulvair pain, tension, dyspareunia.

Which recent developments in the field are discussed?
In the DSM-IV TR, there was the sexual arousal disorder. This was described as a persistent or recurrent inability to maintain the sexual activity till completion, enough lubrication and swelling of the clitoris and sexual excitement.
In the DSM V, this disorder changed and is now called the sexual interest/arousal disorder. This is characterised by absent or diminished interest in sex, sexual thoughts, sexual activity, responsiveness to the partner’s attempts to have sex, pleasure during sex, arousal by sexual cues and sensations during sex.
