Stony Brook University in New York is een publieke universiteit, onderdeel van SUNY (State University of New York). Financieel toegankelijker dan de vele private universiteiten maar op veel vlakken doet Stony Brook qua kwaliteit zeker niet onder voor de bekende namen zoals Columbia, Cornell en NYU.
