The Union (also known as The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease) is a foundation established in 1920. The organization is dedicated to reducing tuberculosis and other lung diseases. They achieve this, among other ways, by organizing scientific conferences and by distributing information about the dangers of smoking. In addition, The Union aims to promote a healthy lifestyle in communities worldwide.

The Union (ook bekend als The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease) is een stichting opgericht in 1920.
De organisatie zet zich in voor het terugdringen van tuberculose en overige longziekten.
Dit doen zij onder andere door wetenschappelijke conferenties te organiseren, en door informatie te verspreiden over de gevaren van roken.
Daarnaast wil The Union gezonde leefstijl in communities over de hele wereld promoten.

Wetenschappelijk onderzoek, Advies en Educatieve & Medische programma’s

The Union verbindt wetenschappers, en bevordert wetenschappelijk onderzoek op het gebied van tuberculose en overige longziekten. Het bevorderen van de situatie in ontwikkelingslanden staat daarbij centraal.
Via The Union kunnen landen advies en begeleiding krijgen bij het implementeren van het nieuwe WHO tuberculose programma, waarbij de lengte van de behandeling wordt verkort van 24 naar 9 maanden.
Ook technische en administratieve hulp is mogelijk via The Union: daarbij is er veel aandacht voor het verbinden van lokale en internationale regelgeving. Daarnaast organiseert The Union cursussen, zowel online als op locaties over de hele wereld.

Conferenties & Journals

The Union organiseert conferenties in landen over de hele wereld.
The Union World Conference on Lung Health is het grootste jaarlijkse evenement dat zich richt op lagere tot middenklasse inkomens en populaties. Jaarlijks trekt deze 4-daagse wetenschappelijke conferentie delegaties uit meer dan 125 landen.
The Union geeft twee wetenschappelijke journals uit: het International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (IJTLD) en Public Health Action (PHA).
