Een aantal dingen wat me opgevallen is, is dat ze in Zuid-Amerika alles behalve duurzaam zijn. Vlees is het hoofdingredient van het avondeten, middageten en het zou me niets verbazen als ze ook bij het ontbijt vlees eten. En voornamelijk de douches zijn verschrikkelijk. Wr water opgewekt door stroom (ja iedere keer ben ik bang dat ik mezelf elektrocuteer) en slecht geïsoleerde huizen (ik waan mijzelf iedere nacht onder een zee van alpaca wol).  Maar goed wij in het westen hebben dan ook de luxe om ons druk te maken om het milieu. Hier is het vaker eerder overleven.

 

Welnu, Peru.

- Bean to Bar Organic Chocolates: need to say more? Goede chocolade, altijd goed! Het verkoopt ook organische koffie en is te vinden in: Calle Santa Catalina 204, 2nd floor, arequipa. 

 

- Green point (vegetarisch restaurant). Als je meedoet met de free walking tour in arequipa of cuzco krijg je 10% korting! Adres: Carmen Bajo 235, San Blas. (2nd in ranking door tripadvisor!)

 

- Green Peru Adventures (bekroond met 5 sterren door tripadvisor!) is a Cusco based travel agency,  specializing in adventure treks to Machu Picchu and holiday tours all over  Peru. The founding idea was to create a new concept in tourism with social  responsibility, integrity and cultural awareness at the core of our  organization.

- Greenlodge Tarapoto Peru: Surrounded by an extensive garden, Green Lodge is an eco-property that features a snack bar with organic food in Tarapoto. The lodge is a 3-minute walk from the main square.

- Mountain lodges of Peru: green experience:Mountain Lodges of Peru (MLP) designed an eco-friendly luxury resort trail system for hikers trying to find an alternative, less-worn route to Macchu Piccu. Their plans include helping the 200 families living along the route. MLP then created Yanapana Peru to work directly with local artisans and craftspeople to provide resources to develop their skills and launch businesses. Besides helping the community, MLP developed an eco-team to ensure that all of their projects leave the smallest footprint by designing sustainability projects for each lodge and working with the community to provide them resources for reforesting their community. This mutual relationship helps tourists get both a genuine and eco-friendly experience while providing sustainable income in eco-tourism to the local communities.

 

 

Helaas is er weinig fair trade te bekennen maar shoppen at the core van het product is altijd beter dan in grote getallen te produceren en importeren. Snel veel souvenirs kopen dus!
