Validity describes whether the construct that is aimed to be measured, is indeed being measured by the instrument. The validity is dependent upon the aim of the study: an instrument may be valid for one concept, but not for another. A valid measurement is always a reliable measurement too, but the reverse does not hold: if an instrument provides consistent result, it is reliable, but does not have to be valid.
