Intro

Backpacking or travelling in Monaco?

  • You can hardly find it on the map, but we all know it: the land of the Monaco Grand Prix, rich people and all kinds of luxury - Monaco. Apart from being small and walkable, it is not cheap. Expect high prices for accommodation and food and not many (nature) excursions, but if you want to experience luxury and meet celebrities, it might all be worth it.
  • Spotting activities: visit the Casino de Monte-Carlo; walk through the old town; spot fish at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco; go to a Formula 1 race; spot celebrities at the marina of Monte Carlo; watch the changing of the guard at the Prince's Palace; walk through the Botanical Gardens of Monaco; relax on Larvotto beach (the only beach); shop with a fat wallet.
  • Spotting animals: octopuses, sea urchins, dolphins, seagulls, jellyfish and more marine life.
  • Food Spotting: barbajuan, socca, stocafi, pan-bagnat, fougasse, pissaladière, salade niçoise, tarte tropézienne.

Study in Monaco?

  • You can choose from one (LUXURY) university - the International University of Monaco. This is where people are trained for high-level positions in the business world. Expect small classes, personal attention and oh yeah, did we mention high costs?
  • Study city: one - Monaco.
  • Language: most programs are offered in English.

Internship in Monaco?

  • An internship in Monaco means working in a dynamic and prestigious environment. Many internships focus on finance, luxury hospitality, and the yachting industry. The opportunity to network with influential professionals is great.
  • Competencies: practical skills in finance, customer service, networking and etiquette. You will also gain experience in a fast-paced, demanding work culture where professionalism and attention to detail are the standard.

Volunteer in Monaco?

  • Volunteering in Monaco is very limited.

Working in Monaco?

  • Finding work in Monaco can be difficult unless you have experience in finance, yachting or luxury hospitality. You won’t need ski instructors here, but you will need people in high-end hospitality, casino management and the financial sector. For seasonal work, look at events such as the Grand Prix and summer festivals, which attract extra staff in hospitality and tourism.
  • Work culture: The work culture is formal, fast-paced and performance-oriented. Expect a strict regime and high standards. The companies are often family-run or large financial players who demand professionalism and punctuality.

Working as a digital nomad in Monaco?

  • Monaco is a luxurious but expensive location for digital nomads. It offers beautiful views and an impressive lifestyle, but be prepared for high costs for accommodation and living.
  • Favourite locations: Monte Carlo, but you can also move to France to reduce costs.

Living in Monaco?

  • Monaco is known for its luxury and safety. The houses are expensive, but the city offers a unique lifestyle with lavish views, excellent infrastructure and international flair. It is a place for people who love luxury and have a lot of money, or people who want to work for such people…
  • Education: There are only international schools, but they are very expensive of course.
  • Expat community: Large and diverse, mainly working in the financial and luxury industries.
  • Safety: Extremely safe.
  • Culture: The culture is influenced by France and Italy, with a focus on luxury, exclusivity and a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere. People dress smart and high-end, enjoy luxury experiences and appreciate the art of dining.
  • Beware: Everything is expensive, the country is small and crowded (so you won’t find wilderness or silence) and if you like simplicity, this is definitely not the place to be.
  • Health insurance: The healthcare is excellent, but I think you know by now that you need to make sure you have your own comprehensive health insurance.

Travel in Monaco?

  • Monaco is one of the smallest city-states in the world located in the French Riviera, where glitz and glamour capture the imagination. Residents pay no taxes and speak Monegasque, a dialect with a mix of Italian and French. Although the city is not a member of the European Union, the euro is used as currency and there are no restrictions when crossing the border into France. You can visit Monaco for casinos and the Formula One Grand Prix, as well as beautiful views and some beaches.

From language courses to gap year abroad, from work experience to volunteering abroad, from paid work to internship abroad, from mountaineering to diving and from backpacking to travel around the world

What social activities can you do abroad?

    • Opportunities are found in the areas of helping, learning or studying. You can get involved to volunteer in a social project at a school in Africa, Asia or Latin America. You can get involved in nature, in a project with animals or cleaning the sea or beaches. Those who want to learn more can choose for example a language course in Latin America, Spain or South Africa.

What work related activities can you do abroad?

    • If you want to gain work experience, and/or also earn money, go and work abroad. You can combine backpacking in Australia with temporary work. You can work on campsites in Europe or bush camps in Africa. You can pretty much go all over the world to work in the hospitality industry, hotels and hostels, in the healthcare sector or for example at a diving school.

What sports activities to do abroad?

    • Have you ever thought of mountain biking, rafting (going down a wild river on a raft or rubber dinghy, climbing or canoeing), survival (which involves building rafts, climbing or canoeing), abseiling (descending a rock face while secured to ropes), zip-lining (whizzing down a cable), canyoning (starting at the top of a river and then climbing, swimming, diving down the bed) or caving (scrambling, wriggling and crawling through caves and crevices)?
    • Maybe you feel more comfortable on a bodyboard (on a half-wave surfboard, you surf the high waves lying down-with flippers), on a hang glider or while paragliding (with a parachute you float down a mountain or dune), hydrospeeding (on a bodyboard with flippers and a wetsuit on you go down a wild river via rapids) or Tiefschneeskiing (racing down through powder snow)?
